Our Team

Friends of Mears Park is an all-volunteer sponsored nonprofit organization started in 1992 to care for and maintenance of Mears Park.

Mears Park continues to be a core for activities that celebrates life in the city.  Most notably The Twin Cities Jazz Festival, along with Thursday night’s music Lowertown Sounds. All that increased activity can be stressful for the park and gardens.  Approximately 50 Gardeners volunteer their time for planting, weeding, watering, and tending to their flower gardens.  Many spend their own money on additional plants for their garden plots. Funding supports the garden tools, equipment, signage, and spring plantings.  We have helped raise funds for tree replacement and repairs to the stream.  Each year we coordinate and help pay for holiday lighting including design, display, and maintenance. Annual weed control and fertilizing of the grass, and hanging baskets are paid for by Friends of Mears Park.
